Dairy breeds by InterGen
Holsteins are worldwide the main dairy breed at all. The breeding roots
of all Holsteins is the north-west of Germany and the neighbouring
Dutch region. Germany has the biggest Holstein population worldwide
with 1.6 mill. registered Black and White cows, 150,000 Red and Whites,
and more than 2 mill. under milk control. About 1000 bulls with best
international pedigrees are tested in Germany each year with at least
100 daughters per bull. Hundreds of bulls more are tested in many other
European countries. Therefore InterGen selects approved genetics in
Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungary, and other
European countries.
Dairy Simmental (Fleckvieh) is the 2nd important dairy breed worldwide.
The biggest herdbook population exists in the south of Germany with about
1 mill. controlled cows. Dairy Simmentals are able to produce milk and
beef on a very high level. Some farms produce more than 10,000 kg milk
per cow and year. And the beef production can still compete to specialized
beef breeds. Some bulls are top in both traits, others are specialists.
InterGen offers bulls with best genetics for outstanding milk production
with good or moderate beef ability. Beef specialists can as well proposed.
Our aims in both breeds are:
• Selection of the best working bulls concerning fitness and all over production
• Selection of bulls with successful daughters on family farms and in big
barns
• Selection of bulls which are well known for no trouble and high profit
